Teams Announced for Annual WAFLW v All Stars Showdown

Nearly fifty of the state’s most promising players have been named to take part in this weekend’s annual WAFLW v All Stars at Revo Fitness Stadium.

The WAFLW has named a squad of 21 players, while the All Stars boast a list of 25 representatives.

Trent Cooper, Manager Female Talent Programs and Coaching Specialist at the
West Australian Football Commission, believes while the result isn’t a priority, both teams will be playing to win.

“For the 18’s, it gives them the chance to finish their pre-season block by playing a game together before they go back to their WAFLW Clubs,” Cooper said.

“The game will give coaches the opportunity to see what needs to be worked on before the National Championships in August.

“Last year, three players from the WAFLW All-Stars were signed as injury replacement players by AFLW clubs.

“Ari Hetherington (Fremantle), Matilda Dyke (Essendon), and Charli Wicksteed (Richmond) all made their AFL debuts in the same year.”

The All Stars won last year’s match with a goal after the final siren.
