WAFL"
We take a look at 10 players to watch in AAMI WA Football State 18s Boys v WAFL Under-20s Curtain-Raiser, which will kick off a massive day of representative footy at Sullivan Logistics Stadium on Saturday.
Leo Steed (Swan Districts)
The Bunbury product is already making his mark in the seniors this season.
While playing mostly forward for Swan Districts’ league side, Steed is set for more midfield minutes during the upcoming AFL National Under-18s Championships.
Steed, one of WA’s top prospects, has his best WAFL outing against West Coast in Round 4, tallying 15 disposals and booting two goals.
The 176cm talent is small in stature but makes up for it with his skills, work ethic and midfield craft.
George Gale (Claremont)
Gale was one of the form players of the EGT WAFL Colts competition before his State 18s squad selection.
He’s since been playing a mix of PSA and State 18s trial games and continued his prolific ball-winning run.
The 190cm Claremont Colts premiership player, who’s the son of former Docker and Saint Mark Gale, has similar size and attributes to his former teammate and St Kilda draftee Charlie Banfield and will likely be used in a similar wing role during the National Champs.
Harvey Spawton-Guy (West Perth)
With Koby LeCras ruled out of the AFL National Under-18s Championship with a knee injury, his fellow West Perth forward Harvey Spawton-Guy will likely be the main focal point in attack.
Spawton-Guy is an excellent key-position size at 196cm, has a great set of hands, good tank and can kick a big bag.
Frazer Rickson (Subiaco)
Rickson has performed admirably at Subiaco’s No.1 ruck in 2026, playing every game this season.
The teenager was in the mix for a spot in the State 18s program last year before an untimely broken leg just before the final selection meeting.
He’s been added this year as an over-ager and is expected to play a mix of key forward and ruck, and could even spend time as a key defender.
*the full State 18s side will be announced on Friday
Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (Subiaco)
The leading AFL Mid-Season Draft prospect out of this team, Hibbins-Hargreaves has been a fine addition to Subiaco’s league side since arriving from Victoria during the off-season.
Arguably the biggest shock of last season’s AFL draft, the smooth-moving utility is looking to put his draft heartbreak behind him and find his way onto a list.
The 18-year-old, who was more of a forward during the Coates Talent League days for Dandenong Stingray, is playing more across half-back this season and averaging nearly 18 disposals per game.
Missed last round with concussion but is expected to return to push his case in front of recruiters.
Floyd Burmeister (Peel Thunder)
The athletic Peel Thunder recruit seems destined to take a Kia Mark of the Year at some point after nearly hanging onto one in his Sullivan Logistics WAFL debut in Round 1.
Burmeister has played a mix of seniors and reserves this season due to the Thunder’s strong depth and the Dockers’ short injury list, but there’s no denying his talent.
The spring-heeled 199cm former Greater Western Victoria Rebels forward-ruck is still only 20 years old and has plenty of tricks and x-factor.

Sheldon Pickett (Swan Districts)
Another Bunbury talent, Pickett moved to Perth during the off-season to further his AFL ambitions.
One of the over-aged members of the State 18s squad, Pickett has impressed in the trial games so far playing both on the wing and up forward.
Pickett had 22 touches in game one on the wing to go with a game-high 13 marks, nine inside 50s and a goal, before backing it up the following week with three majors.
Blake Kelly (Swan Districts)
Kelly was one of the hard-luck stories of last year’s AFL Draft, getting overlooked despite a strong season at both WAFL Colts and AFL National Under-18s levels.
The hard-working midfielder had an interrupted pre-season but has been in prolific form since returning, averaging 30 disposals in the WAFL Reserves including 35 and 37 in his last two outings.
The former State 18s leadership group member doesn’t look far off a senior berth at Swan Districts.
Dale Sutherland (Perth)
Like Kelly, Perth defender Dale Sutherland was invited to last year’s WA State Draft Combine after a strong back half of 2025 before missing out on his AFL dreams.
The 19-year-old has been ticking along nicely in the twos for the Demons, averaging more than 19 disposals and a touch under six marks per game.
Noah Braun (Claremont)
The son of a gun is coming off a record-breaking 50 disposals in Claremont’s Colts victory over Perth last week, beating the previous record of 47.
He’s a smooth-moving left-footer who can play on a wing or as an inside midfielder.
The son of West Coast premiership player Michael has been playing with a point to prove after missing State 18s selection and could earn a late call-up with a big performance on Saturday.
The match will be streamed live and free on the WAFL’s official YouTube channel.
It’s followed by the Kia WAFLW State Team’s clash against SANFLW at 12.40pm, with the Kia WAFL Men’s Team taking on South Australia from 3.10pm.
