Swans Star Heads Up Dhara Kerr Contenders

Swan Districts midfielder Jaime Henry is hoping to cap off a stunning individual season by claiming the Dhara Kerr Medal next Monday.

Henry is the leading contender to take home the most prestigious individual award in the ATCO WAFLW season as the fairest and best player of the competition.

Playing every match during the home and away season, Henry averaged a remarkable 33 disposals a game and kicked five goals to help the black and whites claim the minor premiership.

On three occasions she picked up 40 disposals or more in a game, collecting 49 disposals against Peel Thunder in Round 10 and a staggering 51possessions in the Round 12 win over South Fremantle.

Henry told WA Football in August about how she sustained her excellent form.

“It’s certainly been a big year, and I wouldn’t be able to do what I do without the support I have around me from my teammates,” Henry said.

“The focus for me is to just to be as consistent as I can be week in week out and play my role for the team.

Other players expected to poll well include Claremont’s two-time Dhara Kerr Medallist Jayme Harken who averaged 26 disposals a game, while her former teammate Juliet Kelly is bound to pick up votes early in the season, averaging 30 disposals a game before she departed to join the Adelaide Crows in the AFLW.

Subiaco trio Paige Sheppard, Krstel Petrevski and Lisa Steane all had seasons which will attract votes from the umpires.

Sheppard averaged 31 touches a match, reigning Dhara Kerr Medallist Petrevski 26, and Steane averaged 27 disposals a game.

After finishing second in the count last season, Perth’s Isabella Shannon followed up with another standout season, averaging 27 possessions a match and kicking 14 goals.

Despite going down to East Fremantle in the ATCO WAFLW Grand Final, Swans many still have a reason to celebrate this season if Henry claims the Dhara Kerr Medal.
