WA Young Guns On Display

Some of the best 2027 AFL Draft prospects from WA will play in the annual Young Guns game at The Good Grocer Park this weekend.

WA Football State Talent Manager Adam Jones has outlined the motive for the match.

“We play this game to provide an opportunity for WA’s best young talent to showcase their ability to the football industry the day before the WAFL Grand Final,” Jones said.

“Players who have shown talent and form in the latter stages of the 2026 season have been selected in the teams.”

The Young Guns game is the next stage in the development of teenage players with an eye on a career in the AFL.

“Many recruiters will be in town for the WAFL Grand Final weekend, so they will come along to get a feel for the next crop of WA talent, and it’s also used as a selection tool for the Summer Squad,” he said.

East Fremantle, which has reached the EGT Colts Grand Final, has 16 representatives.

Several Sharks won’t be available because of the Colts Grand Final, while Troy Warner, who won the Kevin Sheehan Medal at this year’s National Under 16 Championships will be out of action because of injury.

Claremont has 11 players picked for the game, while Swan Districts boast nine representatives.

East Perth rising star Axel Walsh is being rested, but Eli Wirrpanda and Will Jones, the respective sons of West Coast Eagles premiership players David Wirrpanda and Rowan Jones, will play.

An asterix next to player’s name means they won’t play due to injury, are being managed or playing in a WAFL Grand Final (including emergencies).
