Former West Perth champion Tyler Keitel will begin training with his new club Swan Districts next month.

Keitel recently made the stunning decision to join Swans in arguably the biggest WAFL transfer this century.

“It has definitely been a mix of emotions,” Keitel said.

“I’ve given my absolute all to West Perth over the past 12 years, so it’s a big decision and not one I’ve taken lightly.

“I’m incredibly proud of my time at the club and have made some lifelong friendships and memories along the way.

“It’s sad to close that chapter, but I’m comfortable that I’ve made the right decision for me and my family at this stage of life.”

The 30-year-old officially signed with the black and whites last Thursday after an incredible career with the Falcons.

“Ultimately, it came down to doing what I felt was best for my family while also putting myself in the best position to continue enjoying my footy and competing at a high level,” he said.

“I’ve got a huge amount of respect for West Perth and what the club has meant to me, but I felt the opportunity at Swans was the right fit for this next chapter.”

The key forward kicked 478 goals in 215 games, winning six Bernie Naylor Medals (2018, 2021, 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026) as the leading goalkicker in the WAFL.

Keitel was a West Perth premiership player in 2022 and claimed two Breckler Medals as the Falcons’ fairest and best.

The recruitment is a major boost for coach Andrew Pruyn.

Keitel will line up alongside fellow veteran forward Leigh Kohlmann and high-flier Tom Edwards who returns after being delisted by Essendon.

He’ll join up with his new teammates later this week for a bite to eat.

“I’m looking forward to catching up with a few of the boys,” he said.

“I’ve played against several of them for years and have a lot of respect for them, so it’ll be good to get to know everyone a bit better.

“A few of the boys have already reached out and made me feel really welcome, which has been great.

“I also went to school with Jesse Turner, who’s doing a great job leading the club, so it’ll be good to link back up with him and see what we can achieve together.”

Keitel will hit the track with Swans in the coming weeks.

“I believe we’ll get going in late November and I’m really looking forward to the fresh challenge, getting to know the boys and being part of a new environment,” he said.

“I’ve still got plenty of footy to play, and I’m excited about what we can achieve together.

“Hopefully, the change brings some fresh energy and excitement heading into next season.”
