Kicking Goals and Kalability Carnival

More than 500 participants consisting of staff and students from 12 schools took part in the annual Kalability Kickability Football Carnival at Kostera Oval in Kalamunda.

Now in its third year, 24 teams from Secondary Education Support Schools competed across three divisions.

Hayden Marchetto, Executive Officer WA All Abilities Football Association (WAAAFA), said the carnival was a great success.

“The carnival gives the students the opportunity to try a modified version of AFL and by participating in this event, students are not just learning the game, they’re creating life-long skills such as teamwork, camaraderie and sportsmanship,” Marchetto said.

WAAAFA’s key message ‘if you want to play, we’ll find a way’ outlines the organisation’s commitment to inclusivity and accessibility to football.

“The support from the Education Support schools is fantastic and seeing the schools come together to participate in the carnival, sharing experiences and building camaraderie is what Kalability Kickability is about.”

Rob Geersen, Starkick Coordinator at the West Australian Football Commission WAFC, said participants are not the only ones who benefit from this carnival.

“We’re hoping to ensure more kids are not only playing footy, but also building friendships, confidence and most importantly fun,” Geersen said.

Armadale Education Support Centre was honoured with the Values Award in recognition of their demonstration of sportsmanship and unwavering commitment to respect, which they consistently upheld throughout the carnival.
