Captain Cox Flags Premiership Plans for 2023

Swans Districts skipper Jess Cox has boldly declared the club’s goal ahead of the 2023 WAFLW season.

The black and whites reached last year’s Preliminary Final, but that result still burns Cox, who’ll lead the side for a second season.

“I believe we’re improving as a team.

We have a young side this year with different strengths, but our ambition is to win the Premiership and we’re not afraid to declare that.

The game evolves every year and player movement changes a lot of aspects within clubs, so you just never know where each team is at.

You have to back yourself in at all times I think,” said Cox.

The 2021 Fairest and Best winner at Swans, Cox has embraced leadership.

“I’m super humbled and grateful for the opportunity to captain the girls for a second season.

We have an amazing group of young talent and genuine characters that I love working with to bring the best out of each other.

I look to improving my leadership and sharing my knowledge with my teammates,” she said.

Cox has been trying to set the tone for the squad over summer.

“My role in the build up to the season is to run with a special theme of authenticity.

Being true to our values and creating a safe environment for my teammates to grow and prosper with challenges.

I believe in developing character and creating a natural culture,” Cox revealed.

A bond that exists within the group is also a key element of success in 2023.

“The biggest strength of the squad is our character.

We have a lot of belief in each other and a natural connection and this will be our best asset on and off the field.,” she said.

And when it comes to finding the footy herself this year.

“Having a good season is a great chance to take my game to the next level.

Our leadership isn’t just on field performance, it’s being authentic to ourselves and how we want to viewed by our peers.

But playing well helps!”
