WEST Australian football on Wednesday night will celebrate the careers of 10 outstanding contributors to the game at the annual WAFL 200 Club presentation.

Seven former and current players will be joined by three umpires in the WAFL 200 Club.

This year’s player inductees are Travis Colyer, Brandon Matera, Shane Nelson, David Swallow, Justin Longmuir, Michael Broadbridge and Ashley Prescott.

Umpires Nathan Williamson, Luke Edwards and Steve Gaensler have also been recognised.

WAFL 200 Club President George Michalczyk has declared the event a special night on the football calendar.

“Many members of the WAFL 200 Club are WA Hall of Famers, so a good percentage of them attend the event, and rightfully want to continue to celebrate their amazing achievements of playing or umpiring 200 games,” he said.

Michalczyk points out the importance of acknowledging players and umpires in the local competition.

“It’s very important to recognise high achievers, particularly in the WAFL, which will become rare in years to come as few players reach 200 matches,” he said.

“West Perth midfielder Shane Nelson is a great example of this.”

To qualify for the WAFL 200 Club, any player or umpire who takes part in 200 games qualifies for induction.

WA players who enter the AFL at a young age must have played at least 25 games in the WAFL.

This year’s WAFL 200 Club welcomed WA Hall of Famer Rob Wiley onto the committee, which includes Les Fong, Graham Moss, Jason Norrish, Brian Ciccotosto, Tallan Ames, Greg Wardell-Johnson and Trevor Garrett.
