WAFLW All Stars Match Chance to Re-Set for State 18s

State 18s Head Coach Beau McDonald has one major task ahead of this weekend’s WAFLW All Stars match.

After last weekend’s disappointing 83-point loss to South Australia in the opening game of the 2022 NAB AFLW U18 National Championships, McDonald’s goal is clear.

“The spirits are a bit low after Sunday’s defeat, so our first task is to lift morale in the group and get them back on track for this weekend’s match.

Bear in mind we had 18 players making their 18s debut against South Australia, so it was a steep learning curve,” McDonald said.

The squad trained together last night at Optus Stadium and will have one final hit-out before Saturday.

“As a group we’re disappointed with our performance against South Australia.

We’ve reviewed the game and it’s important that the players learn where they must improve.

We were poor in the contested part of the game and our pressure on the outside was poor.

They had a lot more of the football,” McDonald said.

Ahead of WA’s next match in the Championships, against Victoria Metro in Melbourne on Friday week, the players are now preparing to play a WAFLW All Stars side.

“This will be another great test for our side, with the girls coming up against familiar faces and mature bodies from the WAFLW,” McDonald said.

The State 18s play the WAFLW All Stars at Revo Fitness Stadium on Saturday at 2pm.
