WAFC Statement: COVID-19 Lockdown April 2021

Following the WA State Government announcement in respect to the lockdown, the following protocols must be adhered to by all community football leagues and clubs within the Perth & Peel regions.

WAFL, WAFLW & Talent Programs

The West Australian Football League (WAFL), WAFLW, and WA Talent programs have been postponed until midnight Monday April 26th as per State Government requirements.

The decision means all matches across this weekend will be postponed and re-scheduled, with no clubs able to play or train during this time.

Currently, Round 5 of the WAFL and Round 10 of the WAFLW is anticipated to proceed as scheduled next weekend, however the WAFC will be guided by any further directions and health advice from the State Government.

All activities in relation to the WA State Talent programs have been cancelled this weekend.

Junior Football

Information regarding the beginning of Metro Junior Competitions, due to start on the weekend of May 1, will be released in due course.

As per government restrictions, no junior clubs in the Perth Metro or Peel areas will be able to play scratch matches or train over the lockdown period.

Auskick centres in Perth and Peel will have all sessions postponed that were scheduled this weekend, including half-time Auskick and Little League at the AFL game between Fremantle and North Melbourne.

Senior Community & Regional Football

All Metro-based senior competitions will be cancelled this weekend in line with the State Government announcement.

The Perth Football League, Metro Football League, Peel Football & Netball League, Hills Football Association and AFL Masters fixtures will be cancelled this weekend.

All leagues outside of the Perth & Peel regions are permitted to proceed as normal, however individual leagues may make decisions based on the availability of players. Clubs are encouraged to speak to their leagues directly.

WAFC CEO Michael Roberts said the WAFC will continue to liaise with all levels of football during the lockdown period.

“We will be working through this postponement with all senior and junior competitions and affiliates throughout WA over the coming days and remain committed to offering our full support to community football during this time,” Roberts said.

“Nothing is more important than the health and well-being of our football participants and the wider community that we are all a part of, and this will remain at the forefront of our decision making.”
