Gibson Football Club in the Esperance District Football Association recently took promotion of men’s health to new heights as part of Men’s Health Week and the WA Country Football League’s ‘talk to a mate’ round.

Led as part of an initiative from league coach, Mic Krygger, the club painted one of their light poles blue using equipment provided by local farmers and businesses to remind the local community about the importance of men’s health.

The club also held a meeting with special guest speaker Tom Curnow, who’s father Freddy was killed in the Esperance bushfires in 2015, to deliver an inspirational message to players.

West Australian Football Commission Goldfields Regional Manager Gemma Harrison said the talk given by Tom Curnow was a highlight of the day.

“Tom’s father Freddy was a much loved and well respected footballer and local celebrity so as you can imagine, Tom’s message was especially strong,” she said.

“This is yet another amazing initiative run by the club and league coach, Mic Krygger that provides a positive message for the local community through the football club.”
