GOOD Friday football is back in the WAFL in 2018 and what better way to open the new season than two massive Round 1 matches as reigning premiers Peel Thunder host big off-season movers East Fremantle and Leederville Oval co-tenants Subiaco and East Perth also lock horns.

There could be no more mouth-watering way for the new season to begin than the two Good Friday clashes as the 2018 WAFL campaign gets underway.

Peel Thunder is coming off winning the past two WAFL premierships so begin their quest for a historic hat-trick with a home opener at Bendigo Bank Stadium on Good Friday against East Fremantle.

The Sharks have loaded up on former AFL-listed players following winning just three games in 2017 so will be looking to start the new season on the best possible note.

The other Good Friday clash is the now traditional battle between the Leederville Oval co-tenants when the Grand Finalists of the past four seasons Subiaco take on an East Perth team trying to return to the finals after missing out in 2017.

There are two more Round 1 matches as well and they take place on Saturday afternoon with West Perth taking on Claremont at the new-look HBF Arena from 1.40pm. That match will be live on 7mate.

Then the round concludes at Lathlain Park when Perth hosts Swan Districts from 2.15pm on Saturday afternoon.

South Fremantle, the preliminary finalists of the past two seasons, has the Round 1 bye.
