Round 7 WAFL PreviewFriday, May 10, 2024 - 9:28 AM - by Chris Pike

THE last round of the WAFL prior to the State game looms as a fascinating one with West Perth trying to bounce back, Swan Districts trying to build momentum and then it's a blockbuster East Fremantle-East Perth clash on neutral turf.

It's the last chance for teams to make a statement and players to lay claim to spots in next week's State game against the SANFL in Round 7 of the WAFL with all five matches taking place on Saturday.

First up is Subiaco at home to South Fremantle at Sullivan Logistics Stadium with the Lions looking to snap a two-game losing run while the Bulldogs are attempting to keep their winning run going having now won four in-a-row.

Next up is two in-form teams locking horns with Swan Districts playing Peel Thunder at Steel Blue Oval. Swans are fresh off beating Claremont while Peel is sitting in top spot on the back of a record 113-point hammering of West Perth.

Then there's two teams desperate for a win battling at Mineral Resources Park with Perth at home to Claremont with the injury-hit Demons currently eighth at 2-3 and the Tigers ninth at 1-4.

East Fremantle and East Perth now bring impressive form into their match up at Fremantle Community Bank Oval with the Sharks' winning the last two in their premiership defence while the Royals are impressing sitting second at 4-1.

Last up for Round 7 is West Perth hosting the West Coast Eagles at Pentanet Stadium with the Falcons' attempting to hit back from their biggest loss in 12 years last week against Peel Thunder.

They come up against an Eagles team sitting 1-4 with the Falcons to also celebrate the 100th game of premiership and State defender Zac Guadagnin, who is hoping for a strong response to that Peel defeat.

"It was just a disaster of a day really, nothing really went our way and I feel like we never stop trying or anything, and taking nothing away from Peel who were very good and had a strong side in, but we just had a very, very bad day," Guadagnin said.

"In my career, I don’t think we've dished out a performance like that at least that I can remember. You can't really put your finger on what went wrong, we just seemed really disconnected and our ball movement just wasn’t working.

"We couldn’t even get our hands on the ball for starters and when we would win it, we'd turn it over and Peel made us pay.

"I don’t want to say it was an effort thing because you're always still out there trying, but once Peel had that strong start we were on the back foot and we lost that bit of motivation once we were down by so much.

"It was just one of those days where nothing was clicking and I'd like to move on very quickly and forget about it to be honest."
