WAFL Activ WA Day Round RecapMonday, June 3, 2024 - 7:56 PM - by Chris Pike

OVER 12,000 fans turned out to witness two cracking WA Day WAFL contests with wins for South Fremantle and East Perth while Tony Notte got a fairytale 300th game with Swan Districts, and Claremont and West Coast Eagles scored wins over the weekend.

It was a WA Day Round in the WAFL to savour which started back on Saturday with Claremont putting together a terrific performance to beat the league-leading Peel Thunder 10.12 (72) to 5.13 (43) at Revo Fitness Stadium.

The other Saturday game was all about the 300-game milestone for Notte and his Swan Districts teammates lifted for the occasion to end up beating Subiaco 9.11 (65) to 7.12 (54) at Sullivan Logistics Stadium.

Not only that, but Notte played well himself with 15 possessions and six marks, and most notably he took a trademark contested overhead mark reversing into the oncoming traffic to cut off a Subiaco attack.

The siren sounded as he hit the ground and there could not possibly have been a more fitting finish to a day where he became the seventh man in WAFL history to reach the triple century.

The West Coast Eagles then made it consecutive wins to get off the bottom of the ladder with the 10.11 (71) to 10.9 (69) win over Perth in Northam on the back of three goals in five minutes in a patch to seal the win in the last quarter.

Debutant Jack Hutchinson kicked five goals for West Coast after being selected in the mid-season draft on Wednesday.

It all led into the two WA Day derbies and it began with a monster crowd of 7468 turning up at Fremantle Community Bank Oval with South Fremantle kicking the first six goals on the way to the 13.9 (87) to 10.13 (73) win over East Fremantle.

Dylan Main kicked a career-best six goals in the seventh straight WA Day win for the Bulldogs.

It was another strong crowd of 4534 at Pentanet Stadium with East Perth winning a thriller 13.8 (86) to 11.17 (83) with usual defender Harrison Macreadie going forward to kick two late goals and see the Royals move a game clear in top spot.
