WA could not overcome their slow start as they fell short to Victoria Country by 32 points in Melbourne.
Despite not kicking a goal in the first half of the match, WA came out firing in the second half.
The Black Swans game plan came together in the third term, kicking four unanswered goals.
Both teams beefed up their defense in the last quarter, WA snuck through with a goal to Alicia Blizard before Vic Country finished the game with a goal on the siren.
There were plenty of positives for the Black Swans, WA had 50 hit-outs to Vic Country’s 14 and won the inside 50 by count by one.
Blizard finished the game with three goals, while fellow forward Olivia Wolmarans kicked two majors.
Midfielders Zippy Fish (21 disposals, three tackles, three clearances), Lily Paterson (20 disposals and seven tackles) and Noa McNaughton (20 disposals, three marks and one tackle) provided plenty of run, while Natasha Entwistle was strong in defence (16 disposals, four marks and two tackles).
WA State U18s Girls coach Beau McDonald said the team will review this match before turning their attention to South Australia in a fortnight’s time.
“Our effort was below par for the first half of yesterday and this showed on the scoreboard with Vic Country kicking eight goals,” McDonald said.
“After acknowledging this and how to go about it the girls were able to come out and kick four goals in the third quarter, but the game was already out of reach.
“This was a good lesson for us to bring the effort and teamwork for four quarters.”
