WA Football congratulates a group of clubs that have helped pilot the Champion Club Program.

These clubs not only embraced the program's framework but also provided valuable feedback that helped shape the program, reaching important milestones in strengthening their governance and club operations.

The following clubs have successfully completed the program's pilot phase and achieved recognition for their outstanding efforts:

  • WA Football Juniors Metro North: Joondalup Kinross Junior Football Club (Foundation and Premiership Level)
  • WA Football Juniors – Metro Central: Mt Hawthorn Junior Football Club (Foundation Level)
  • WA Football Juniors - Metro South: Bibra Lakes Junior Football Club (Foundation Level)

South Mandurah Junior Football Club (Foundation and Premiership Level)

  • Perth Football League: Bayswater Football Club (Foundation Level)

These clubs have worked through the program’s structured process, which involved completing governance requirements, submitting evidence, and meeting operational benchmarks to reach both Foundation and Premiership Levels.

Their achievements have set a fantastic example for others to follow.

Zac Binning, WA Football’s Club Development and Volunteers Specialist, is proud of the clubs concerned.

“The effort these clubs have put into the program is a testament to the importance of good governance and volunteer management in community football,” Binning said.

“Their participation and feedback have been crucial in refining the program, and they now serve as great examples of how clubs can thrive by adopting best practices.”

The success of these clubs marks an exciting step forward in creating a more consistent standard of governance across all community football clubs in Western Australia.

The Champion Club Program is designed not only to benefit individual clubs but also to strengthen the football community as a whole by providing clubs with the resources and guidance they need to succeed long-term.

Inaugural Foundation Champion Club President, Rowan Acton, praised the WA Football Champion Club Program.

“The program is a fantastic initiative,” Acton said.

“Engaging with it has significantly boosted our Committee’s confidence, ensuring we have strong governance and compliance structures in place, which sets a positive trajectory for our club both now and in the future.

“As volunteers, we found the guidance notes, templates, and examples extremely helpful, making it easy to navigate the platform.”

Acton has encouraged other clubs to get on board the program.

“The Mount Hawthorn Junior Football Club was thrilled to pilot this program, and we hope all participating clubs can experience the same benefits we have,” he said.

As part of their Champion Club recognition, these clubs will enjoy benefits such as official recognition on WA Football platforms and access to promotional materials and opportunities.

The achievements highlight how important good governance is for the future of community football.

WA Football looks forward to seeing even more clubs get involved in the program moving forward.
