Starkick - Design A Jumper CompetitionMonday, March 17, 2025 - 10:25 AM

Students at Beldon Education Support Centre will wear new jumpers this season after winning the annual Starkick - Design A Jumper Competition.

Year five student Vinh took out the 2024 competition from a field of strong entries from education support students across the state.

After overcoming the initial surprise of winning the competition, Vinh was all smiles when he was called up to receive the school’s new Jumper set when they were unveiled at a recent School assembly.

Vinh’s colourful and vibrant design depicts the school’s emblem of the banksia flower and the theme of students going beyond in orange.

The surrounding leaves and grass near the school flow across the jumper offering a place for "Winston and Sherman", two kookaburras who sit outside his classroom where they sit and eat.

Beldon ESC teacher Fiona McCole highlighted how Starkick had helped engage students to create a safe and social space for children to participate in activities.

“The students enjoy the annual carnival where they get to meet others, enjoy the company of their peers, and it provides community access which provides fundamental skills and personal and social capabilities,” McCole said.

“They love the challenge of competing against others and playing as a team.”

McCole was also full of praise for the Design a Jumper Competition which is now in its third year.

“All of our students enjoyed participating in the Starkick initiative with the prospect of winning a football jumper for their school and get to wear them at the annual carnival day,” she said.

"I'd encourage all schools to have a go, which we did, and all the students loved it.”

The 2025 Starkick- Design a Jumper competition is now open to education support students and schools from across the state.

The student and school chosen as the best design for 2025 will receive a full set of jumpers in the winning design.
