The WA football community is saddened by the death of former Perth and Carlton champion Peter Bosustow after a long battle with cancer.
Bosustow played 141 games for Perth and was part of the 1977 premiership win for the Demons.
He also famously kicked 7 goals in a losing Grand Final against East Perth in 1978.
Known as ‘Buzz’, Bosustow was also a star forward in two Carlton premiership sides in 1982 and 1983 and kicked 146 goals in 65 games with the Blues.
In 1981, he claimed the rare double of the Mark of the Year and the Goal of the Year.
Perth President Adrian Barich echoed the sentiments of football fans around the country.
“We are saddened to say that one of our finest footballers passed away last night,” Barich said.
“Peter was a legendary figure in Australian Rules football and a man who left a lasting mark on the game
“He thrilled fans with his electrifying style, spectacular high-flying marks, ferocious tackling and unmistakable flair on the field.”
“At both the Perth Football Club and Carlton, Bosustow’s career was marked by brilliance and passion.
“He was a premiership player for the Demons and a dual premiership player with Carlton and a celebrated personality in the football community.”
“Beyond the goals and the marks, he was a character of the game,larger than life, and unforgettable to those who saw him play.
“Put simply he was a footballing genius.
“Today, we remember Peter Bosustow not just for his achievements, but for the joy he brought to fans across the country.
“Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, and the entire football community.
“Our thoughts are with Shelley, Brooke and Brent.
“Peter Bosustow was one of a kind, and he will be deeply missed.”
The Buzz kicked 378 goals for the Demons and was named on a half-forward flank in Perth’s ‘Team of the Century’.
Bosustow also played eight state games for Western Australia, kicking 17 goals.
He was recently inducted into the Perth Football Club Hall of Fame.
