Think Mental Health Round hits the country

Every senior country competition across the State will take part in the sixth annual Think Mental Health Round.

In 2019, Country Football WA partnered with Healthway to promote the Think Mental Health campaign and key messages.

Think Mental Health partnership key messages are;

  • …before it all gets too much…Talk to a Mate®
  • Talking and listening are powerful; and
  • Mental health issues can affect anyone. It may be difficult at first but talking can help.

This round aligns with Men's Health Week (June 9th –15th 2025), which is a dedicated week that shines a spotlight on the unique health concerns impacting men.

Lewis the Looma Eagle

Dual AFL premiership player Lewis Jetta made a Kimberley cameo for Looma Eagles in the West Kimberley Football League.

The former West Coast and Sydney speedster featured alongside his brother and fellow Swan Districts product Graham Jetta in a thrilling win over Bidyadanga Emus.

Another ex-Swan Districts player, Warrick Wilson, also played for the victors.

Jetta then presented one of his signed jerseys to the best player on ground in both the women’s (Jenaye Cox-Green) and men’s (Tyrese Skeen) matches.

Historic country footy carnival back in Kulin

Western Australia’s longest-standing footy carnival is back on in Kulin this weekend as the best young talent from eight country competitions battle it out.

The annual Great Southern Colts Carnival, which was first held back in 1922, sees teams from the Great Southern, Upper Great Southern, Peel, Lower South West, Ongerup, Eastern Districts, Esperance and Goldfields leagues converge on Kulin.

Peel Football League will be aiming for a hat-trick of titles after winning three of the last four years, with Great Southern prevailing in 2022.

Select players from the carnival will form the Regional Districts team which will compete in Division Two of the CBH Group Colts Carnival at the Nutrien Ag Solutions Country Football Championships held in Perth and Perth next month.

Among the previous winners of the Harry Reeves Medal for Player of the Carnival are current WAFL league footballers Judd Kelman (Subiaco) and Mitch Zadow (East Fremantle) who represented the Goldfields and Peel competitions respectively.

Richmond swingman Jacob Blight has played for Great Southern at the carnival, with Lake Grace-Pingrup product and dual Tigers premiership hero turned West Coast recruit Liam Baker (Ongerup) another big name to feature before making it into the AFL.

Heart-warming tribute to Bunbury premiership hero before historic AFL clash

There was a special and heart-warming tribute to a late Bunbury Football Club premiership hero ahead of Sunday’s historic AFL clash between North Melbourne and West Coast at Hands Oval.

Scott Hough, a much-loved Bunbury life member and North Melbourne fan, died in 2023 after a three-year battle with motor neurone disease.

In a beautiful moment ahead of Sunday's game, Hough’s two children – Liam and Mila - had the opportunity to run out with their beloved Roos team before the first ever AFL game for premiership points in the town.

To make the family’s day even more special, the Roos got up in a thriller.

Boulder recruit the first to 50

Prized Boulder City recruit Dustin Walters has become the first player in WA’s country competitions to reach the 50-goal milestone this season.

The former Geelong Falcons squad member booted six goals in Boulder’s win over Kalgoorlie on Saturday to take his season tally to 51 in just eight games.

Walters is a remarkable 32 goals clear of the next best goal-kicker in the Goldfields Football League, Mines’ Nick Reghenzani on 19.

Another familiar name to line up in Boulder’s clash against Kalgoolie was former AFL Rising Star winner Rhys Palmer, who played his third game of the season for the Kangas.
