Subiaco star Krstel Petrevski has taken out the 2025 Dhara Kerr Medal after a stellar WAFLW season, winning by five votes to claim her maiden title at Crown Perth on Monday night.
The prolific and consistent midfielder played a massive role in the Lions' rise up the ladder, averaging 26.1 disposals per game to go with five tackles.
Petrevski took an early lead from chasers - two-time defending champion Jayme Harken and Evie Cowcher - before Isabella Shannon and Matilda Sergeant began racking up plenty of votes through the middle rounds of the season.
AFLW Draft prospects Mia Russo and Carys D’Addario were each tied for second place on 11 votes after Round 10 alongside Harken and Sergeant, proving they are ready to play AFLW football should they each hear their names called out in November.
Strangely enough in Round 8, Juliet Kelly won a record-breaking 48 disposals, laid 10 tackles and booted a goal, only to receive just two votes as Matilda Sergeant’s 44 disposals and six tackles triumphed for best-on-ground honours.
Perth recruit Shannon continued her prolific first WAFLW season, picking up maximum votes in Rounds 12 and 15, while South Fremantle’s Tahleah Mulder made a run in the middle patch of the season also.
Petrevski earned three votes in Round 14 to extend her lead, while Sergeant also picked up the maximum votes in multiple rounds to get to 17 votes after 15 rounds.
Swan Districts midfielder Jaime Henry, though ineligible, climbed up the leaderboard between Round 12-15, rising to 16 votes and third on the leaderboard.
After 15 rounds, Petrevski led Matilda Sergeant by seven votes. Speaking live at the event, Sergeant stated “KP’s got in the bag. She had a very good year and it’ll be very well deserved.”
The final three rounds saw Petrevski solidify her insurmountable lead, grabbing two votes in Round 17 and eventually winning the Medal with a total of 26 votes.
Jaime Henry picked up three votes in round 17, as did Isabella Shannon, while Shannon’s two votes in the final round gave her a total of 21 for the night. Reigning back-to-back medallist Harken won three votes in round 18 to give her 21 votes for the night as well.
In a sign of things to come, West Perth’s Lexi Strachan, who earlier in the night won the WAFLW Rising Star award, picked up 6 votes in the count as a 16-year-old.
Reflecting on the victory, Petrevski spoke of her love for the football club, for whom she played before she was drafted to the Melbourne Football Club in the 2019 AFLW National Draft.
“To my teammates and the football club, it’s a great privilege to play for Subiaco and I’m incredibly privileged to wear the gold and maroon. I can’t’ be the footballer I am without you guys. You make me a better player. I’ve made lifelong friends and family.”
Petrevski thanked her head coach Baker Denneman for his hard work and dedication as well, joking that it isn’t easy to handle 31 girls, but that he gave up his time to love and support them.
“To the football club, thank you for investing in the women’s program. It takes more than just the team it takes the whole football club so thank you for your support.”
