2025 WAFL season review : East PerthMonday, October 20, 2025 - 12:21 PM

East Perth suffered Grand Final heartbreak for the second successive season, falling just short of causing a stunning upset against eventual premiers South Fremantle.

It was a brilliant season for Ross McQueen’s men, who lost Mitch Crowden, Cooper Stephens and Angus Schumacher heading into 2025.

Stepping up in their absence, Tom North had the best season of his career, while Jordyn Baker, Stan Wright, Angus Scott and Hamish Brayshaw all had excellent seasons.

The Royals now haven’t won a WAFL League premiership since 2002 following their famous threepeat and have lost four Grand Finals in the period following.

Starting 5-1 was a strong beginning of the season that had them sitting on top of the table, before dropping three of their next four games and falling to fifth.

From there, the club rattled off five consecutive wins to climb back up to third spot.

Despite losing the last three games of the season, they were able to cling onto third place by percentage.

East Perth met Claremont in Week 1 of the finals, with the narrow 13-point margin coming off the back of big performances from Hamish Brayshaw, Zachary Raykos and Christian Ameduri.

This led them to a Semi Final against South Fremantle, who defeated the Royals by 59-points, and East Perth were left with a home Preliminary Final against Claremont once again.

With the return of star Tom North, who was brilliant, and with dominant games from Stan Wright and Hamish Brayshaw, the club was able to ward off a strong fight from the Tigers to set up a showdown with the Bulldogs.

In a season with several strong performers, Tom North averaged 28.1 disposals per game, sixth in the competition, while Angus Scott (26.3) and Hamish Brayshaw (25.6) were also among the leading ball-winners this year.

Despite losing their respective places in the side towards the back end of the year, Sebit Kuek led the team’s home-and-away season goalkicking with 25 and Thomas Medhat was right behind on 24.

Ruckman Scott Jones completed another outstanding season by being named the FD Book Medallist for 2025.
