Readings, Duffield, Channel 10 among major winners at WA Football Media Guild Awards Thursday, November 13, 2025 - 9:56 AM - by Jordan McArdle

Iconic footy commentator and broadcaster Mark Readings has taken out the prestigious Geoff Christian Medal at the annual WA Football Media Guild Awards at Optus Stadium on Wednesday night.

Readings was voted as the standout sports media performer in the State for 2025 by the judges for his work as an AFL and WAFL broadcaster for 6PR and Channel 7, as well as his hosting duties for Wide World of Sports and work in the podcast space with Back Chat.

He also won the Tim Flynn Best Radio Commentator award.

The George Grljusich Award for Best Overall News Story went to Channel 10 journalists Lachy Reid and Ash Nelson, who broke the story on West Coast co-captain Oscar Allen’s secret meeting with Hawthorn coach Sam Mitchell which captured significant national attention.

The exclusive, titled ‘Raiding the Next – The Oscar Allen and Sam Mitchell Meeting’, also won Best TV Breaking News Story.

Legendary journalist Mark Duffield was honoured for his monumental contribution to sports media in WA with the Dennis Cometti Award for Excellence Over a Career.

There were joint winners of the Tracey Lewis Emerging Media Talent with West Coast premiership coach Adam Simpson (SEN/Fox Footy) and rising TV star Erin Harwood (Channel 9) unable to be separated.

The Mick Cronin Best TV Feature Story went to Channel 9 sports anchor Paddy Sweeney for his exclusive interview with Adam Selwood.

Sweeney also took out the Best TV Match Report for his wrap of the Dockers’ road victory over Gold Coast.

The West Australian’s Craig O’Donoghue won the Jack Lee Best Print News Story for his exclusive on Eagles young gun Harley Reid’s wedding catch-up with Sam Mitchell.

O’Donoghue also prevailed in the Best Print/Digital Match Coverage Award and was part of the award-winning The West Sports Show which took out Best Football Program.

Kris Klifunis from SEN won the Best Off Air Performer with the award now named after Peter Poat, a former WA Footy Media President and Guild founder who sadly passed away earlier this year.

SportFM won multiple awards including Colin Minson Best WAFL Coverage and Dick Buchanan Best Radio News Story for their stunning reveal of West Perth coach Jason Salecic’s sacking on WAFL World.
