AFL Stars Go Back To School

Players from Waalitj Marawar and Walyalup have visited a number of schools across Perth as part of ongoing school engagement activities.

Dockers players visited several primary schools, while representatives from the Eagles spent time at Education Support Centres across the metropolitan area.

Visits included a mix of AFL clinics, classroom visits, question and answer sessions and autograph signings.

The sessions gave students the chance to interact with AFL players, hear about their football journey and participate in fun football activities alongside the players.

WA Football School Specialist Regan Atkinson has discussed the initiative, which is used to promote WA Football school programs and competitions as well as show the benefits schools get from these types of engagements.

“It was fantastic to engage with 15 primary schools and education support centres during the most recent AFL player school appearances this month,” Atkinson said.

“The sessions were fantastic and we received a heap of positive feedback from the players, WA Football Participation staff and the schools.

“The ability to promote football throughout schools via face-to-face engagement with AFL players is critical.

“It can play a big role to encourage students to sign up to their local junior football club or Auskick centre, while the visits also create awareness of the game for new participants or fans.

“I’d like to thank the players from both the Eagles and the Dockers for their level of engagement with the students, creating meaningful experiences the students will carry with them for many years.”
