State Talent and Draft"
Female All Star Curtain Raiser 28th June 2014
In a huge weekend for female football across Australia, Western Australia will kick start the excitement as players from the WAFC Talent Academy 16-18 years and State 16’s Schoolgirls take part in a curtain raiser to the AFL Western Derby on Saturday.
Female Football High Performance Manager Alison Moore said this was an exciting opportunity for some of the best young female players from WA to showcase their skills on the hallowed turf at Patersons Stadium.
“The Talent Academy is an excellent opportunity for females to further develop their football skills, tactics and playing strategies” she said.
“To play on WA’s Premier oval against a team looking for back-to-back Championship wins will test the Talent Academy group and showcase their skills in a competitive match-up.”
Having won the National Championship in 2013, the State 16’s will utilise the curtain raiser game to finalise their team synergies and iron out the creases in final preparation before heading to Sydney for the 2014 National Championships in July.
The Talent Academy team will be looking to claim bragging rights from the game, having been training weekly with the Academy since January.
Saturday’s curtain raiser will see the WAFC Talent Academy play in black and gold, with the State 16’s team playing in blue and white.
All are encouraged to head to Patersons Stadium early and support both teams as they bounce down at 12.10pm.
