East Fremantle Football Club has secured another significant signing as part of its 2018 recruiting campaign, with former Essendon player Nick Kommer inking a two-year deal with Sharks.

The explosive and hard-nosed mid/forward played 22 games for Essendon, where he made a name for himself as one of the toughest players in the competition.

Prior to that he played 27 WAFL League games with East Perth in 2011 and 2012.

Kommer said he was excited to play with East Fremantle under coach Rob Wiley and his team.

“It’s great to be back in the West and playing in the WAFL,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to meeting and playing alongside a new bunch of lads with an up and coming young list.”

Kommer’s trademark aggression and pressure will be a major inclusion for the Sharks. Coach Rob Wiley said Kommer’s AFL experience and work ethic will also compliment other recent recruits Jonathon Griffin and Jarrad Jansen in developing the club’s younger players.

“His pace, aggression and competitiveness will go a long way as we move forward,” Wiley said.

Selected from East Perth in the 2012 Draft with pick number 73, Kommer made his debut in Round 1 the following year. Despite a fantastic break out season, injuries hampered many opportunities for the 27-year old and as a result he was delisted after playing just three games in season 2016.

Back fighting fit, Kommer spent the past year playing in the Ballarat Football League for Melton South, finishing high up in their best and fairest award. After five years in the east, the Sharks said they were rapt to secure Kommer’s signature.
