Club-by-club guide to Sandover Medal

We take a look at every club’s best Sandover Medal hope and smokey ahead of Monday night’s count at Crown Perth.

CLAREMONT

Likely votes leader: Co-captain and previous Sandover Medal winner Callan England was among the favourites to win the Sandover Medal before a knee issue saw him miss several matches. England is still likely to lead the Tigers’ Sandover Medal hopes.

Smokey: Youngster Sam Alvarez will no doubt catch the eye after a career-best season in the midfield and across half-back.

EAST FREMANTLE

Likely votes leader: Young gun Jack Cleaver is the hot favourite to be East Fremantle’s leading votes getter after taking his game to another level in 2026.

Smokey: Fellow midfielder Tom Joyce had a consistent final season in the WAFL and finally got some luck on the injury front to stay on the park.

EAST PERTH

Likely votes leader: Midfielder Liam Tedesco had a strong back half of the season after recovering from injury, helping fill the void left by hamstrung co-captain Hamish Brayshaw.

Smokey: Brayshaw will likely poll regularly in the games he played but missed more than half of the home-and-away season.

PEEL THUNDER

Likely votes leader: Dockers-listed midfielder Jeremy Sharp has enjoyed an impressive season at the Thunder and will go into Monday night’s count at Crown Perth as the warm favourite.

Smokey: Former Collingwood VFL captain Lachlan Tardrew has been a picture of consistency in his debut season in the WAFL. Tardrew, who’s arguably been the recruit of the season alongside Perth key defender Charlie Dean, and Sharp will likely take votes off each other which will make things interesting during the count.

PERTH

Likely votes leader: Reigning Sandover Medal winner Charlie Constable had another fantastic season, topping the competition’s disposal tally for the home-and-away season.

Smokey: Constable’s midfield partner in crime Brandan Parfitt had plenty of three-vote worthy performances across the season and should getting plenty of attention.

SOUTH FREMANTLE

Likely votes leader: Jake ‘The Ferrari’ Florenca has been such a consistent contributor in South Fremantle’s midfield are should be among the leading contenders to win the Sandover Medal. Florenca has shouldered the load with star Matthew Parker playing less than half of the season due calf and hamstring injuries and suspension.

Smokey: Classy midfielder-forward Isiah Winder not only found plenty of the footy, averaging around 25 disposals, he regularly hit the scoreboard with 15 goals in his 18 home-and-away matches.

SUBIACO

Likely votes leader: Former Docker Stefan Giro was outstanding for the Lions all season with 23 disposals and more than a goal per game.

Smokey: Utility Jack Mayo has been a real Mr Fix-It for the Lions this season, playing a variety of roles. He finds a lot of the footy for a ruckman and can kick a big bag when he moves forward.

SWAN DISTRICTS

Likely votes leader: Captain Jesse Turner was as consistent as ever in the midfield, averaging the second-most disposals in the competition with 28 per game.

Smokey: Fellow midfielder Josh Cipro had a career-best season and stood tall in a lot of the Black Ducks’ victories.

WEST COAST

Likely votes leader: Ball magnet Fin Macrae is a strong chance to poll the most votes for West Coast after a strong debut season with the club, however he’s ineligible to win due to suspension.

Smokey: Ruckman Matt Flynn won the club’s WAFL fairest-and-best award recently ahead of Macrae and should poll strongly, with young midfielder-forward Tom Gross another consistent performer.

WEST PERTH

Likely votes leader: Former West Coast midfielder Connor West was the side’s leading ball winner and played 17 of a possible 18 games.

Smokey: Forwards don’t usually poll well, but Tyler Keitel’s performances can’t be ignored after the veteran won his sixth Bernie Naylor Medal as the competition’s leading goal-kicker. Vice-captain Kane Bevan had an outstanding first half of the season, however missed some games late due to concussion and illness.
