Falcons continue giant-killing Reserves run in prelim

West Perth’s giant-killing run has continued in the WAFL Reserves Preliminary Final, defeating arch-rivals East Perth by 30 points at Revo Fitness Stadium on Sunday.

The Falcons, who finished fifth on the ladder after the home-and-away before knocking off Peel Thunder and Perth on the way to the prelim, overcame a half-time deficit with a strong nine-goals-to-four second half.

The 15.13 (103) to 10.13 (73) result means West Perth seals their spot in the decider against minor premiers Swan Districts at Optus Stadium next Sunday, kicking off at 9.45am.

Son of a gun Jack Wooden was prolific for the victors, finishing with a game-high 28 disposals and six inside 50s, while bull Matt Galjaardt’s purple patch continued with 23 touches, six tackles and six inside 50s.

There was a good spread of goal-kickers for the Falcons with Nate Dimanlig and Max Connell booting three goals apiece and Zac Sprigg, Menno Inverarity and Xavier Vallejo also chipping in with two apiece.

Former first-round draft pick Cooper Stephens was East Perth’s best in his return from a hamstring injury, dominating at the stoppages.

Stephens finished with 25 disposals, including 15 in the opening term, to go with four inside 50s to go with a classy final-quarter goal.

Brody Delaney had a team-high 26 touches and 10 marks to go with two goals and five inside 50s in an impressive display, while Liam McAlister (24, eight inside 50s and a goal) also found plenty of it and Tom Medhat (two goals) had some good moments up forward.
