We take a look at the best and most exciting additions to the WAFLW ahead of the 2026 season.

Annabel Johnson

Club: Subiaco

Position: Defender

Age: 25

The talented half-back has signed with Subiaco for the 2026 season after getting cut from West Coast.

Johnson, 25, made 20 AFLW appearances including four with the Eagles last season after starting her career at Geelong.

She’s an exciting player who would’ve played a lot more at the top level if not for a horror run of injuries including an ACL tear and foot fracture.

Poppy Stockwell

Club: Perth

Position: Forward

Age: 22

Stockwell is a massive signing for the Demons.

The former Fremantle forward is back in the WAFLW after her recent delisting at the Dockers.

The South Fremantle product and former first-class cricketer will further strengthen Perth’s forward-line.

Evie Gooch

Club: Perth

Position: Defender

Age: 30

Gooch returns to the WAFLW for the first time since 2021, only this time she’s with Perth and not East Fremantle.

The reliable defender tallied 40 AFLW appearances for Fremantle (23) and West Coast (17) after getting picked up in the 2017 Women’s Draft.

She will add vital experience to the Demons, looking to continue their rise after impressive debut season.

Ash Gomes

Club: South Fremantle

Position: Midfielder

Age: 28

In one of the biggest and most talked about off-season moves, East Fremantle captain and three-time premiership player Gomes has joined cross-town rivals South Fremantle.

Gomes, who also played at AFLW level for West Coast, brings a wealth of experience and leadership to the Bulldogs, who fell just short of a finals berth last season.

She played more than 100 games for the Sharks with three flags including one as skipper.

Bianca Webb

Club: East Perth

Position: Midfielder

Age: 24

Webb’s signing is a huge coup for the Royals after a frustrating 2025 campaign.

The former Fremantle AFLW midfielder played 19 games across three seasons at the top level and also has WAFLW experience at West Perth and Swan Districts.

Kate Bartlett

Club: Peel Thunder

Position: Forward

Age: 26

For the first time since 2022, Kate Bartlett is back in the WAFLW in exciting news for Peel Thunder and the competition.

Barlett is a dual winner of the WAFLW’s leading goal-kicker award – the Joanne Huggins Trophy – and two-time premiership player and is the top goal-kicker in Thunder history with 86 majors in 39 games.

The former West Coast and Western Bulldogs AFLW players returns from the Peel Football Netball League, where she kicked a staggering 103 goals last season.

Courtney Zappara

Club: East Perth

Position: Forward

Age: 23

The dangerous goal-kicking forward is another exciting addition for East Perth after crossing from Swan Districts.

Zappara won the WAFLW’s leading goal-kicker award – the Joanne Huggins Trophy – in 2024 after booting 22 goals in 13 games including a best of seven against her new team.

She will no doubt be among the favourites to top the Royals’ goal-kicking this season.

Mackenzie Webb

Club: East Fremantle

Position: Defender

Age: 21

Webb crosses from premiers Claremont to East Fremantle in an excellent get for the Sharks.

The 21-year-old defender played in the Tigers’ most recent premiership and also feature for the WAFLW State Team against South Australia last year.

She also spent time with West Coast’s AFLW side as an injury-replacement player back in 2023.

Sabreena McKinnon

Club: West Perth

Position: Forward

Age: 25

The former Fremantle and Melbourne AFLW forward is back in the WAFLW in a massive coup for West Perth.

McKinnon played 29 AFLW games and booted 34 majors, starting her career at the Dockers before a season with the Demons.

She topped the Dockers’ goalkicking in 2020 with 12 goals and also earned a Rising Star Nomination in 2019.

Georgia Tait

Club: Peel Thunder

Position: Forward

Age: 22

After two seasons with Carlton’s VFLW team, Tait has move the move west to join Peel Thunder.

The Northern Knights product will add plenty of firepower to the Thunder’s forward-line alongside returning star Bartlett.
