WA Football has confirmed the 2026 Sullivan Logistics WAFL season will begin with five matches played over two days during the Easter Long Weekend.

The opening game of the year features the now traditional Good Friday showdown between Peel Thunder and East Fremantle on April 3 at Lane Group Stadium.

That match will be followed by a twilight fixture on the same day between this year’s Grand Finalists East Perth who face Subiaco in Jarrad Schofield’s coaching return for the Lions.

Three matches will be played on Easter Saturday, April 4.

After being caretaker coach at the back end of 2025, Paul Sanzone will begin his full-time coaching tenure at West Perth when the Falcons host Claremont, Perth will launch its bid for consecutive finals appearances when they play the West Coast Eagles at Mineral Resources Park, while Swan Districts will open their 2026 season against reigning premiers South Fremantle at Steel Blue Oval.

In the WAFLW competition, the season begins with a blockbuster match-up between 2025 Grand Finalists Claremont and Swan Districts.

The Tigers completed back-to-back premierships with a thrilling one-point result against Swans in this year’s decider and the two teams will renew their rivalry in Round 1 for the Dhara Kerr Cup at Revo Fitness Stadium.

In another standout fixture, Derby rivals South Fremantle and East Fremantle kick off their campaigns at Fremantle Community Bank Oval, with Sharks premiership hero Ash Gomes running out in Bulldogs colours after switching clubs during the off-season.

Four opening-round matches will be staged on Saturday, March 28, with Peel Thunder at home to East Perth while Subiaco plays West Perth.

Perth has an opening-round bye.

Head of WAFL Competitions at WA Football Luke Sanders believes both competitions offer an exciting start to their respective seasons.

“Supporters of all clubs look forward to the announcement of the Round 1 fixtures and the excitement a new season brings,” Sanders said.

“Having the WAFLW season begin on the last weekend of March and the Sullivan Logistics WAFL competition launching over the Easter Weekend provides fans with a feast of local footy to kick-start 2026.”
