WAFL"
The Kia WAFL State Game and Kia WAFLW State Game against South Australia will form part of a historic triple-header of representative football at Sullivan Logistics Stadium on Saturday, May 16.
WA’s men’s and women’s representative sides will battle it out on the same day and same ground for the first time ever, with AAMI WA Football State 18s taking on the WAFL under-20s in the curtain-raiser.
Sullivan Logistics Stadium is the only place you can go to watch a game of professional football in Perth on Saturday, May 16, with West Coast and Fremantle both playing the following day.
WA and South Australia have a rich history in men’s representative football, dating back to 1904.
The arch-rivals have faced off exactly 100 times with the Croweaters narrowly ahead on the win-loss ledger – 51-49 – including six of the last seven.
At home in Perth is a different story however, with the WAFL up 33-13 in front of their loyal supporters.
WA broke a seven-year drought last season with a stunning come-from-behind victory at Adelaide Oval, led by Simpson Medal winner Milan Murdock who went on to get drafted by West Coast.
It’s also the 40-year anniversary of another famous win by the Black Swans against South Australia, with legendary names including Rob Wiley, Brian Peake, Michael Mitchell, Steve Malaxos and Brian ‘BT’ Taylor featuring.
The women’s representative team went close to a breakthrough victory at Adelaide Oval last year with Subiaco star Lisa Steane awarded the best-on-ground medal for WA.
It will be a family-friendly day out, with kids under 16 free.
