Jack Clarke Medal winner, familiar names headline Colts Team of the Year

Jack Clarke Medal winner and South Fremantle co-captain Chace Vanderhoek was among a host of bottom-aged talents to feature in the EGT WAFL Colts Team of the Year.

Vanderhoek joined fellow 2027 AFL Draft prospects including Subiaco’s Sam O’Brien, Peel Thunder ruck Oliver Edwards and sharpshooter Trent Robertson, East Fremantle duo Noah Hannaford and Hunter Hearn, West Perth ball magnet Tadgh Barrowclough, Claremont talent Gabriel Giltrow and Perth defender Fynn Tomasini in the side.

East Fremantle Colts premiership coach Sam Mainwaring, who led his team of a massive grand final victory over South Fremantle at Optus Stadium on Sunday evening, was named as coach.

Mainwaring was one of five Sharks to make the side including Hearn, Noah Hannaford, Isaac Boothey and livewire Finlay Yeo who earned a State Draft Combine invitation and is part of Fremantle’s Next Generation Academy.

Fellow grand finalists South Fremantle and last year’s champs Claremont were the next best represented with four players apiece.

There were plenty of familiar names in the side including West Coast father-son prospect Noah Braun – the son of Michael – who had an outstanding season for Claremont including a record-breaking 50 disposals against Perth in Round 6.

Emerging Geelong big man Mitch Edwards’ younger brother Oliver who was named as the No.1 ruck as a bottom-ager and Bulldogs swingman Hudson Graham who’s the son of Dockers assistant coach and former West Coast player Jaymie.

The competition’s leading goal-kicker – South Fremantle key forward Sam Hookham who finished with 30 goals in 16 games before a heart-breaking injury saw him miss the grand final – was also in the side.
