Players from diverse backgrounds got the chance to showcase their football skills in the inaugural All Nations Cup on November 25, following months of intensive training.

Male participants between the ages of 13 and 17 from districts in the Metro Central area took part in the round robin tournament under the watchful eyes of academy recruiters at Ashfield Reserve, Bassendean.

The tournament, run by the West Australian Football Commission (WAFC) in partnership with the West Coast Eagles, provides participants the opportunity to get recruited to a high-performance player academy.

West Coast Eagles Next Generation Academy Coach Adam Selwood attended the tournament and said the event plays a crucial role in the development of young multicultural football talent.

“This is a fantastic initiative and opportunity for these kids to develop their footy skills,” Selwood said.

“The work that the WAFC is doing in this area to develop programs for these kids to play footy is great.

“Hopefully these boys will transition into other talent programs into the future and one day play with the West Coast Eagles.”

The WAFC is committed to ensuring the right pathways and, in turn, opportunities are created for people with diverse backgrounds to embrace all aspects of football and hopefully either reach the elite level one day or remain involved in football at a community level.
