SEDA College Soars To Freo Dockers Cup Victory

The Freo Dockers Cup is in new hands after SEDA College claimed a resounding victory in this week’s Moore Division Grand Final at Victor George Kailis Oval in Cockburn.

Having moved up to Moore Division this year after taking out last year’s White Division, SEDA College played Governor Stirling SHS in the Grand Final.

Governor Stirling SHS was aiming for its fourth Moore Division Premiership in a row but was no match for SEDA in the decider.

After leading by 24 points at half time SEDA cruised to a 43-point win, remarkably keeping Governor Stirling scoreless for the match.

SEDA ran out winners 6.7(43) to 0.0 (0) with Matilda Sim from SEDA College winning the Coach’s Award for her side, while Ava Stewart, a Year 9 student, was also presented with a match ball after being presented with the Governor Stirling SHS Coach’s Award.

The Freo Dockers Cup is the premier schoolgirls competition for Year 10-12 students across WA and is coordinated by the WAFC, the Schoolgirls Advisory Committee, and supported by the Fremantle Football Club.

The Moore Division is the top tier of the competition, comprising 6 schools across the metro area, from Joondalup to Secret Harbour, with matches played throughout Term 2 before Monday’s Grand Final.

West Australian Football Commission Schools Specialist Regan Atkinson declared the 27th year of the Freo Dockers Cup a resounding success.

“The talent on display in the Moore Division Grand Final is always great to watch, with some WAFLW league players running around on both sides, proving the quality of the competition.

The Freo Dockers Cup is an important part of the female pathway, as we continue to see growth in the female game.?

We saw over 50 schools and more than 1,300 participants play in the Freo Dockers Cup this year, with divisions running all over the State.?

It’s been fantastic to see school teachers support this competition, given the challenges they’ve faced as we continue to navigate our way through the pandemic.

Congratulations to SEDA College on taking out their first Moore Division premiership, and to Wanneroo Secondary College who took out the White Division.
