State Talent and Draft"

New WAFC State 16’s Academy coach Michael Glassborrow has forecast an exciting few months for the 35 players selected in this year’s squad.
Glassborrow is confident those named will produce the desired results.
“We’re really excited with the squad of we have been able to put together this year.
We feel like it’s a versatile group, with many of the boys able to play multiple positions which is exciting from a coach’s point of view,” Glassborrow said.
As always, trimming the list to 35 is a task in itself.
“It’s always a challenge trying to pick these squads with so many players to look at across the WAFL clubs, but we had a selection committee and as a selection group we were able to watch over 85% of game lives.
So, it’s a busy time but it was really enjoyable seeing the talent over the seven weeks of the future program,” he said.
Glassborrow, who is also part of Peel Thunder’s Senior Program, returns to the 16’s program at the WAFC having previously served as an Assistant Coach.
“I’m really excited to be given a great opportunity to be back involved in the State program.
We have a great group of coaches who are keen to help the kids continue to develop there football.
We’ve done a lot of work and now we get to do the fun part which is coaching great kids over the next 3 months, and we can’t wait to get started,” he said.
The WA squad will hold an induction day on Saturday April 22, before training together twice a week.
The group will hold a campo on the WAFL bye weekend, followed by three trial matches against Peel Thunder, Swan Districts and Claremont during the Colts bye.
WA’s first match at the 2023 AFL National Development Championships – U16 Boys will be against South Australia on June 25.
