Telecasts to capitalise on AFL bye weekend

The West Australian Football League and 7 Network will capitalise on the AFL bye-round in the first week of September by televising both the WAFL Qualifying Final and Elimination Final.

The AHG WAFL Finals Series telecasts have been made possible with the support of broadcast partners Channel 7, AHG, Kennards, McDonalds and REIWA.

WAFL General Manager Steve Hargrave said to televise both of the week-one AHG WAFL Finals Series fixtures was a great outcome for the competition and was confident it would generate significant support.

“On behalf of the WAFL clubs and the competition, I thank the 7 Network and our broadcast partners for making this possible. With no AFL being played that weekend it provides a great opportunity to showcase our opening round of finals,” he said.

“We hope to attract big crowds at the games and a large TV audience on both days to see what promises to be two highly entertaining contests.”

The Qualifying Final between the second and third placed teams on the ladder will be televised from 2pm – 5pm on Saturday, September 3 leading into the AFL’s national women’s fixture.

The Elimination Final between the fourth and fifth placed teams will be televised from 3pm – 6pm on Sunday, September 4 leading into Seven News.

The 7 Network will resume its WAFL coverage on Saturday, August 27 following a break for the Olympic Games, with East Fremantle v East Perth from 1.30pm on Channel 7.
