University, Cottesloe inaugural WAAFL Women’s premiers

University and Cottesloe have been crowned inaugural premiers of the WAAFL Women’s competition.

Both teams were successful in their quest for glory when they played in the WAAFL Women’s A and B Grade Grand Finals on Saturday, 1 September, at Noranda’s Lightning Park.

University came from fourth spot on the ladder to win the A Grade Grand Final after defeating North Beach and minor premiers Curtin Uni Wesley in the finals.

The A Grade Grand Final was a low scoring affair as the teams battled it out across the ground. West Coast had their opportunities in front of goal in the final quarter but finished with four behinds. University capitalising on their scoring shots kicking two goals straight.

West Coast’s Ashlee Hardisty was named Best on Ground.

In the B Grade Grand Final, Cottesloe wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as they kicked five goals in the first half. They continued their dominance in the second quarter kicking a further three goals, holding their opponents goalless until the final quarter.

Cottesloe’s Tash Rigby worked hard through the midfield racking up numerous touches to be awarded Best on Ground.
