We take a look at the biggest fixtures and story lines for the 2026 WAFL and WAFLW seasons.

Good Friday bonanza

Good Friday will become a great Friday if you head to the WAFL to kick off the Sullivan Logistics WAFL season.

A whopping four WAFL league games will be played on the public holiday to go with three Round 2 WAFLW fixtures.

Swan Districts, West Perth and Peel Thunder will all host WAFL and WAFLW double-headers in a perfect way to spend Good Friday.

State game triple-header

For the first time ever, the Kia WAFL Men’s and Women’s State teams will take on South Australia on the same day and ground this season.

WA will play host to the Croweaters at a WAFL ground still to be confirmed on May 16 during the State Game bye weekend.

To kick off the exciting triple-header will be the State 18s and WAFL 20s in a warm-up clash ahead of the AFL National Under-18s Championship.

Grand final re-matches

WAFLW Round One also see the highly-anticipated Grand Final re-match between back-to-back premiers Claremont and Swan Districts.

Swan Districts get an early chance at revenge after a heart-breaking one-point loss in this year’s decider.

The match will be played at Revo Fitness Stadium on March 28.

In one of the most anticipated matches of the Sullivan Logistics WAFL season in 2026, reigning premiers South Fremantle and runners-up East Perth will play each other for the first in June next season.

The Bulldogs will host the Royals at Fremantle Community Bank Oval in Round 9, the first weekend of June, in a re-match of this year’s Grand Final.

‘Ash Gomes Cup’ highlights WAFLW derby

Ash Gomes won’t have to wait long to face the team she won three WAFLW premierships with including one as skipper.

The opening-round WAFLW Fremantle Derby sees Gomes battle it out against East Fremantle for the first time after crossing to South Fremantle during the off-season.

Fremantle Community Bank Oval plays host to the March 28 clash as part of a stand-alone WAFLW Round One.

Cox gets Thunderstruck

Collingwood premiership star Mason Cox is set to be a headline act for Peel Thunder this season when he’s not lining up for Fremantle.

The giant Dockers recruit is a decent chance to make his Thunder debut in the first game of the Sullivan Logistics WAFL season in the annual Good Friday clash against East Fremantle at Lane Group Stadium.

With 139 games of AFL experience and 126,000 Instagram followers, the 211cm Texan is no doubt going to draw a crowd to which WAFL ground he plays at.

Remember me?

Peel Thunder product turned Subiaco recruit Jacob Blight will come up against team for the first time during the WAFL’s Anzac Day Round.

The Lions beat a host of WAFL rivals to secure hulking key defender Blight’s services after he was a shock de-listing at Richmond after 10 AFL appearances.

The 23-year-old tallied 36 league games for the Thunder and represented WA against South Australia in 2024 before getting picked up in last year’s AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft.

Subiaco host the Round Four clash at Sullivan Logistics Stadium.

Falcons champ’s milestone looms

If things go to plan, West Perth champion Aaron Black is set to join the elusive triple-century club in 2026.

Black has already tallied 285 appearances for his beloved Falcons, meaning he could break the 300-game barrier as early as his team’s Round 17 clash against Claremont at Revo Fitness Stadium on August 1.

Black and the Falcons have a fierce rivalry against the Tigers, having beaten them in a thrilling 2022 WAFL Grand Final.

Saturday night fever?

Could we see a Saturday night Sullivan Logistics WAFL Grand Final?

If AFL finals fixtures fall the right way, the WAFL is a decent chance to switch from a Sunday afternoon decider at Optus Stadium to Saturday night.

A lot will depends on the finals fortunes of WA’s two AFL clubs, Fremantle and West Coast.
