WA Football Mourns Passing of Ian Miller

WA Football is saddened by the death of former champion player and coach Ian Miller at the age of 76.

Miller, affectionately known as ‘Serge’, enjoyed a brilliant career playing 276 games with Perth and East Perth in the WAFL and with Fitzroy in the VFL.

Miller played in a premiership for Perth in 1968 and a flag with East Perth in 1978, claiming the Simpson Medal in the Royals’ two-point victory over the Demons.

He won a Sandover Medal in 1972 and represented Western Australia in the same year, earning All-Australian selection.

Often playing as a half forward or ruck-rover, Miller was named in Perth’s Team of the Century.

He also coached the Demons between 1982 and 1984.

However, his contribution to football extended beyond his on-field heroics.

Miller served as the West Coast Eagles player services coordinator from 2002 until his recent retirement.

The club stalwart was named a Life Member at the Eagles in 2012, which followed his induction into the WA Football Hall of Fame in 2008.

He was later awarded AFL Life Membership in 2020.
