WA umpires recognised at awards night

A group of talented West Australian umpires were recently honoured at the 2018 WA National Football League Umpire Association Presentation Awards night which was hosted by WANFLUA President McLane Edinger at the WACA.

Michael Washbourne (pictured) was awarded the prestigious 2018 John McKay Life Members Trophy. Washbourne is officiating in the WAFL League finals.

Awards were also presented to the most improved umpires within each discipline:

2018 David Shawcross Medal Winner Most Improved Goal Umpire – Tiana Fry

2018 Greg Smith Medal Winner Most Improved Boundary Umpire – Jordan Russell

2018 Brett Rosebury Medal Winner Most Improved Field Umpire – Cory Dugan

Field umpire Cam Jones won the 2018 WAFL Rising Star award and field umpire Lachie Fahey-Gilmour received the 2018 Michael Ball Talent Academy Umpire of the Year award.

Three of WA’s umpiring greats – field umpire Luke Farmer and Michael Coleman, and match-day coach Trevor Rees were all farewelled at the event after announcing their retirements this season.
