WA women join Indigenous Round celebrations

An Indigenous Women’s All-Star side will compete against a WA Women’s Football League All-Stars side this Sunday, June 1, to coincide with AFL Indigenous Round celebrations.

The game will be the third biannual Yorga’s Koodjal Kadadjiny match “Women’s Two Way Learning Match”.

The Indigenous All-Stars will be looking for back to back wins after claiming the bragging rights in 2012 against the WA Women’s Football League All-Stars.

The match concept was initiated by Charlie Headland and Paul Hicks to celebrate indigenous Australian women’s love of playing football and to promote reconciliation between all players.

Following the success of both the 2010 and 2012 matches, the WAWFL again aims to celebrate the passion and skill that indigenous female footballers bring to the game.

Hosted by the Perth Demons Football Club at Lathlain Park, Sunday’s game will be an alcohol, smoke and drug free event, helping to promote a healthy lifestyle whilst encouraging positive and respectful relationships between all Australians.

Run by the WA Women’s Football League, the West Australian Football Commission, Yorga Match Committee and major sponsor; Kooya Consultancy, the 2014 Yorga match is sure to be a huge success with all money raised being donated back into WAFC female indigenous football programs.
