WAFC ‘Design-a-Jumper’ competition winners announced

THE schools couldn’t be further apart but Halls Creek District Primary School and Glen Forrest Primary School now have something in common after their students won this year’s West Australian Football Commission (WAFC) ‘Design a Jumper’ competition.

The competition, which is run by the WAFC in partnership with Burley Sekem, encourages primary school students to design a football jumper that reflects their school’s ethos and incorporates local landmarks or traditions.

Milena Mosquito from Halls Creek Primary School and Angie Regan from Glen Forrest Primary School were announced as the metropolitan and regional winners respectively from more than 120 entries.

The schools of the two winners each receive a set of 25 playing jumpers in the winning designs, thanks to Burley Sekem.

Milena’s design represented the floods that happen in the Halls Creek area as well as the blue sky.

Angie took inspiration from the leaves and honkey nuts in the Glen Forrest location as well as the school colours.

Angie narrowly beat her twin sister Monica to win the metropolitan prize.

WAFC Manager of School Programs David Lindsay congratulated the students on their winning designs and thanked all the schools who entered.

“The standard of entries was very high and it was fantastic to see the effort that the students put in to design jumpers suitable for their school,” he said.

“It will be very exciting for Halls Creek and Glen Forrest to have brand new football jumpers for their teams, designed by one of their own students.”

Formal presentations will be conducted with WAFC District Development Staff once the jumpers have been designed.
