SUBIACO and South Fremantle were the two standout teams during the 2017 McDonald’s WAFL Premiership Season but now only one will get a chance to tackle Peel Thunder in the Grand Final after Sunday’s preliminary final.

After Peel Thunder ended South Fremantle’s nine-game winning streak in the qualifying final, Subiaco also had its run of 19 consecutive wins ended last Sunday at the hands of the reigning premiers.

That means that the Thunder are through to their second straight WAFL Grand Final with a chance to make it back to back premierships.

Subiaco will now host South Fremantle at Leederville Oval this Sunday in the preliminary final with the winner to advance to next Sunday’s Grand Final at Domain Stadium. The season is over for the loser.

Considering the outstanding seasons that both the Lions and Bulldogs have had respectively and that they have met one another twice in 2017 for a 39-point victory apiece, it shapes as quite the contest on Sunday at Leederville Oval.

Preliminary final day at Leederville Oval will begin with the colts contest at 9.15am with Claremont to take on East Perth in a rematch of last year’s Grand Final.

The winner will advance to face East Fremantle in next Sunday’s Grand Final.

Then in the reserves preliminary final at Leederville Oval with bounce down set for 11.50am, Subiaco will take on Claremont for a place in the Grand Final against South Fremantle on the line. The teams met in the qualifying final with the Lions winning a thriller by two points.
