Western Australian football greats Bill Walker and John Worsfold were honoured at the Australian Football Hall of Fame Awards at Melbourne’s Crown Palladium on Tuesday night.

Swan Districts champion and the WAFL’s only four-time Sandover Medal winner Walker, whose elevation as the 34th Legend of Australian Football was first announced in February ahead of the AFL Origin clash in Perth, was celebrated for his Legend status on the night.

The 85-year-old has a remarkable footy CV across his 304-game playing career at Swan Districts to go with 21 representative games for Western Australia.

The champion goal-kicker and ball-winning rover won Swan Districts’ fairest-and-best award five times to go with three premierships at the club, including a five-goal haul in the grand final of his debut season in 1961 to lead the Black Ducks to their maiden flag.

He was also a Simpson Medal winner in the 1967 representative match for WA and was named in the All-Australian Team in 1969.

Walker also captained and coached Swan Districts before a stint at president in his later years.

He was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame at the inaugural awards in 1996 and was a legend in the West Australian Football Hall of Fame in 2004.

The dual Eagles premiership skipper played 209 games for the club, earning All-Australian honours twice as a hard-nosed defender and leading the team to their first two flags in 1992 and 1994.

He then went on to coach the club for a record 281 games, highlighted by the 2006 premiership triumph.

Worsfold is already a member of the West Australian Football Hall of Fame, where he was inducted in 2004.

WA Football congratulates Walker and Worsfold on their monumental honours and thanks them for their contributions to our great game.
