Women in Coaching Month wrap

As July draws to a close, Women in Coaching Month also comes to an end. Throughout the month, WA Football delivered a range of initiatives to highlight, support and recognise the outstanding contribution women make to coaching. 

The Co-Coaching Round across junior football in Round 11 was a highlight, giving 30 women the opportunity to coach teams that had not previously had a female coach.

The initiative was warmly received by the community, and the strong support shows it is something we will look to continue.

We also held several Coach Your Way sessions across the Perth Football League, ATCO WAFLW and community clubs, helping more women gain coaching accreditation and take the next step in their football journey.

With over 60 players now holding their bronze level coaching accreditation.  

As part of a broader coach recognition program, three female coaches, one from each region, were acknowledged for their work, commitment to coaching and impact on their players.

Chloe Briggs at Mt Lawley, Jasmine Carey at Secret Harbour and Amarlee Scott from Whitford JFC.  Sharing their stories through our website provided meaningful recognition and encouraged others to see coaching as something open to everyone. 

The 2026 theme was Keep Leading, Keep Coaching. With this in mind, we hosted a dinner for coach developers, presenters and community coaches who regularly attend our masterclass sessions.

With 20 coaches in attendance, WA Football Deputy Chair Dixie Marshall led the evening before the coaches shared dinner and had great conversations.  The evening recognised their contribution, highlighted the significant progress women are making in coaching, and created space to discuss how we can continue to thrive together. 

A major milestone was bringing together coaches from across ATCO WAFLW and HART Sport Rogers Cup clubs. With 55 coaches across the league, a competition high, this moment demonstrated the growth of our high-performance programs in WA and the increasing opportunities for women to coach.
