CLAREMONT won again to stay on top of the WAFLW ladder, East Fremantle remained undefeated and Subiaco returned to the winner's list all part of the Round 6 action on Sunday afternoon.

The 2022 WAFLW season resumed in Round 6 with all three matches taking place on Sunday afternoon while Swan Districts sat out the action with the bye this weekend.

First up to open the Round 6 action was at Joondalup's Provident Financial Oval with Subiaco coming away with its second win of the season by beating West Perth 12.9 (81) to 2.1 (13).

Next up was the first Fremantle Derby of 2022 in the WAFLW competition with East Fremantle keeping its unbeaten start going by beating South Fremantle 7.10 (52) to 2.2 (14) at New Choice Homes Park.

Last up was the league-leading Claremont beating reigning premiers Peel Thunder 11.6 (72) to 5.3 (33) at Claremont's Revo Fitness Stadium.

Those results mean that after Round 6, Claremont remains on top of the ladder with a 5-1 record thanks to their massive percentage. East Fremantle sits second with a perfect 5-0 record.

WAFLW PREMIERSHIP SEASON – ROUND 6

WEST PERTH 2.1 (13) lost to SUBIACO 12.9 (81)

West Perth and Subiaco did battle for the first ever time in the WAFLW competition on Sunday at Provident Financial Oval, and in the end the Lions proved too strong in a clash featuring players largely familiar with one another.

While the Falcons are fighting to find their competitiveness early in life in the WAFLW competition, the Lions needed to get their second win of the season to avoid losing touch of the top four.

In the end, Subiaco proved too strong to win by 68 points and improve to 2-3 on the season and back into fourth position. However, West Perth was competitive in the second half and managed two goals in a game for the first time.

With West Perth chasing its first ever win and Subiaco looking for its second victory of the season, it was a game full of intrigue at the Joondalup venue as they played one another in the WAFLW for the first time.

The Lions were able to start well with two goals in the opening quarter while holding the Falcons scoreless.

It was a similar story in the second quarter as well with three more goals to Subiaco and just the one behind to the Falcons for the Lions to be in control leading by 33 points at the half-time interval.

Subiaco was building some momentum and managed to kick four more goals in the third quarter. West Perth kept battling, though, and kicked a goal themselves to restrict the Subiaco lead to 55 points by three quarter-time.

West Perth kicked another goal in the last quarter as well for them to kick multiple goals in a game for the first time in the WAFLW competition, but the Lions completed the job with three more goals themselves to claim the 12.9 (81) to 2.1 (13) victory.

While Subiaco dominated in terms of inside-50 entries with 49 of them to eight from West Perth which resulted in the 21 scoring shots to three, the Falcons were more competitive than that suggests.

Hayley Corlett ended up kicking three goals for Subiaco in a terrific all-round performance made up of 19 possessions, five marks, four inside-50 entries and three tackles.

Dahna Lee also kicked two goals for the Lions as did Jess Pillera while Jayme Harken, Ellie Blackmore, Kate Pocsidio, Nyra Anderson and Hanna Dethlefsen added one apiece.

There were plenty of Subiaco players who produced strong performances too including Tarnica Golisano with 25 possessions, seven tackles and six entries inside the forward 50.

Harken racked up 25 disposals, Madizen Wilkins 23, Madison Dodd 15, Anderson 15, Blackmore 12, Clare McCarthy 12 and Tess Lyons 12 in the ruck to go with 27 hit outs and four inside-50 entries.

West Perth kicked more than one goal in a game for the first time in their WAFLW history and it was Elissa Price and Chloe Shearing who kicked truly in Sunday's game.

Grace Betti was outstanding all afternoon for the Falcons compiling 26 possessions, five tackles and four marks.

Karla Stagg also gathered 22 disposals for West Perth, Jekylah Garlett 14, Price 11 and Jeevna Heer 10.

EAST FREMANTLE 7.10 (52) defeated SOUTH FREMANTLE 2.2 (14)

South Fremantle took it right up to East Fremantle for a half in the first Fremantle Derby of 2022 on Sunday but the Sharks were able to pull away and keep their undefeated streak going.

The Bulldogs are a largely improved outfit in 2022 but so are the Sharks as they look to return to finals action after a rare down season in 2021.

Little separated the Fremantle rivals at New Choice Homes Park on Sunday, but East Fremantle was able to pull away in the second half largely on the back of six of their seven goals coming courtesy of Julia Teakle.

The first derby battle of 2022 loomed as a fascinating contest with East Fremantle attempting to remain unbeaten and South Fremantle out to make a real statement of how much they have improved in their third WAFLW season.

The opening quarter showed that the gap between the two teams has closed as well with the Sharks only managing to lead by six points at quarter-time on the back of a two-goal to one opening quarter against the Bulldogs.

While the Sharks managed six scoring shots to only one from the Bulldogs in the second term, it was South Fremantle who kicked the only goal.

East Fremantle managed just the six behinds and it was that six-point lead they held going into half-time with the game well and truly up for grabs.

The Sharks regrouped at half-time, though, and came out producing the type of football they had been playing so far this season in the third quarter to blow the game wide open.

East Fremantle managed to kick four goals and held South Fremantle scoreless to open up a match-winning 30-point advantage going into three quarter-time.

The Sharks kicked another goal in the last quarter with the Bulldogs adding a behind to leave East Fremantle to keep their undefeated season going with the 7.10 (52) to 2.2 (14) victory.

While it was a 38-point win for East Fremantle, it was a competitive showing by South Fremantle with the Sharks only finishing with 51 more disposals and 15 more inside-50 entries despite dominating with 17 scoring shots to four.

Julia Teakle had a day out in attack for East Fremantle becoming the first player to kick six goals in a game this season. She did that from nine kicks, four tackles and three marks.

Georgie Cleaver kicked the other goal of the game for the Sharks.

Ashleigh Gomes had a terrific game as well for East Fremantle with 23 possessions and six tackles with Sharon Wong finishing with 19 disposals and eight tackles.

Madeline Ross also had 17 touches, Taya Chambers 17, Larissa Versaci 16 and Hayley O'Donnell 15.

Noa McNaughton and Poppy Stockwell were the goalkickers for South Fremantle.

Liusaidh Gilchrist continued her impressive form for the Bulldogs with another 18 possessions and five tackles while Lauren Wakfer had another strong all-round showing from the ruck with 13 disposals and 18 hit outs.

Kiara Templeman finished with 18 possessions as well for the Bulldogs, Pia Durk 15, Casey Byrne 15, Zoe Wakfer 13 (five marks, six tackles) and Molly O'Hehir 12 (six tackles).

CLAREMONT 11.6 (72) defeated PEEL THUNDER 5.3 (33)

Claremont put its spot on top of the WAFLW ladder on the line at home to the two-time reigning premier Peel Thunder on Sunday.

The Tigers came out on Revo Fitness Stadium and blew the Thunder away in the second and third quarters as well to set up the eventual 39-point victory on the back of a combined eight goals from Brooke Whyte and Jacinta Valentini.

that leaves Claremont on top of the WAFLW ladder having won five of their six matches while the Thunder have now lost three straight to be 2-3 and fall outside the top four for the first time in 2022.

This always loomed to be the game of the round featuring a Claremont team on top of the ladder and Peel coming off the last two premierships but needing to bounce back from a string of losses.

It was the Tigers who started strongly on home turf, though, with six scoring shots to one in the opening quarter and that saw them open up a nine-point advantage by the end of the first term.

Claremont then really blew the game wide open in the second quarter. Not only did the Tigers hold the Thunder to just the one behind, but they piled on five goals themselves and that saw them hold a commanding 38-point lead going into the half-time interval.

The Tigers pulled away further with another four goals to one in the third term to lead by 57 points at three quarter-time.

Peel was able to finish the game strongly with three goals to just one behind from Claremont in the last quarter, but it did didn’t stop the Tigers cruising to the impressive 39-point victory.

Interestingly, Peel actually had three more inside-50 entries than Claremont for the game but could only convert 29 of those into five goals for the game. The Tigers kicked 11 goals from their 26 entries.

The Claremont forward-line had a day out in the big win with Brooke Whyte brilliant kicking five goals from her six kicks and four marks. Jacinta Valentini also kicked three goals from nine kicks and five marks.

Tessa Doumanis, Rose Clancy-Dillon and Ells Slocombe all kicked one goal each as well for the Tigers.

Sasha Goranova delivered another impressive performance for Claremont as well racking up 24 possessions and five tackles while Kate Orme gathered 21 disposals, Madeleine Scanlon 17, Mikayla Western 14, Tess Blackburn 14, Brooke Hongell 13 and Kobi Nichols 13.

Matilda Dyke stood up well in the ruck too for 10 touches and 13 hit outs.

Kira Phillips kicked another two goals for Peel from five kicks with Ella Roberts, Kate Bartlett and Aisha Wright kicking one apiece.

Chloe Wrigley gathered 20 possessions for Peel, Cassie Davidson 17, Jaide Britton 14 and Greta McKinley 14.
