SOUTH Fremantle scored the biggest win of the WAFL season to remain unbeaten to open Round 5 on Saturday with Claremont bouncing back and East Perth winning a second consecutive match.
Three of the four Round 5 matches took place on Saturday afternoon with South Fremantle improving to a 4-0 record with a 21.10 (136) to 4.14 (38) victory over Perth at Lathlain Park.
Then in the opening derby of 2016, East Perth kicked 10 goals to one in the second half to beat West Perth 14.16 (100) to 6.4 (40) at Medibank Stadium.
And after inaccuracy cost Claremont dearly last Sunday against Swan Districts, the Tigers answered back emphatically kicking 19.2 (116) to defeat East Fremantle who scored 11.11 (77) at ATOM Stadium.
South Fremantle was coming off the Round 3 bye but suffered no halt in momentum beating Perth by 98 points to return to the top of the WAFL ladder, at least until Subiaco plays Swan Districts at Steel Blue Oval on Sunday.
It took nine minutes for the first score but that was a South Fremantle goal to Mason Shaw and the Bulldogs then kicked five more in the next eight minutes. The Bulldogs then booted 7.4 (46) to nothing in the first quarter to set up the win.
Perth scored with a rushed behind a minute into the second quarter and got a goal 12 minutes in to ruckman Angus Graham. But South Fremantle kicked the last two goals of the first half to lead by 49 points at the break.

Then after a couple of goals to Perth early in the second half, South Fremantle asserted its authority again kicking the next nine goals, and 10 of the last 11 of the game to win by 98 points.
Shaw played his best game of the season for the Bulldogs booting five goals from 21 possessions and nine marks while Ryan Cook, Ben Saunders, Blaine Johnson, Steven Edwards, Brendan Verrier and Steven Verrier all kicked two.
Brendan Verrier racked up 31 possessions, Steven Verrier 30, Ashton Hams 30, Haiden Schloithe 26, Adam Guglielmana 23, Shane Hockey 21, Tim Kelly 20 and Matthew Gundry 20 while Josh Branchi was the best big man on the ground with 17 touches and 25 hit outs.
