EAST Perth, South Fremantle and West Perth all put to bed the concerns over playing on a short break with the three teams finishing strongly to record impressive wins in Saturday’s Round 11 WAFL action while the league-leading Subiaco continued its dominant form.
All four Round 11 WAFL matches took place on Saturday afternoon starting with East Perth coming from behind to beat Swan Districts 13.9 (87) to 11.4 (70) at Bassendean’s Steel Blue Oval.
Subiaco also beat East Fremantle 15.18 (108) to 8.12 (60) at Leederville’s Medibank Stadium while South Fremantle defeated Perth 17.10 (112) to 11.8 (74) at Fremantle Oval and West Perth downed Peel Thunder 17.9 (111) to 17.5 (107) in a high-scoring thriller at Mandurah’s Bendigo Bank Stadium.
East Perth moved into the top-five and improved to a 5-5 record thanks to a 17-point win over Swan Districts but the Royals had to come from behind to do so.
Swans might have come into the game without premiership veterans Justin Simpson and Tim Geappen, but started strongly coming off a win over Perth with five goals to two in the opening quarter, and then still led by one straight goal at half-time.
However, East Perth then kicked four goals to two in the third quarter, and four more to two in the last to end up winning by 17 points.
Star West Coast forward Jack Darling came in and played his first game of the season and starred up forward for East Perth kicking five goals from 10 possessions and seven marks to likely mean he comes in straightaway for the Eagles next Saturday against Essendon at Domain Stadium.
Scott Lycett, Paul Johnson and Craig Wulff all kicked two goals each for East Perth as well with Johnson dominant in the ruck with 17 disposals, six marks and 39 hit outs.
