The Coaches of the first ever National AFL Female KickStart Championships have been named.

Allana Dickie was selected as head coach and Charlene Headland as assistant coach.

Dickie has been an assistant coach for WA in the last two AFL Youth Girls National Championships and Headland has previously been involved coaching Swans District teams in the Rogers Cup and Youth Girls competitions.

With a combination of community and talent based coaching, these two are expected to make a great combination.

Dickie said WA would have a strong side for the Kickstart Championships.

“Being down at the Youth Girls games on the weekends I know there is so much talent out there. It is exciting to know we have so far had 30 girls put there hands up to try out for the team, given we only have four weeks before we travel.

“Charlene and I can’t wait to get started,” she said.

The Female KickStart Team will have their first training session today, Monday August 12, at 4:30pm at All Saints College, Bull Creek.

The championships is an opportunity for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander females to experience a National Program provided they have not been a representative of an AFL State Team previously (SSWA State 16 Schoolgirls, AFL Youth Girls Nationals, AFL Open Women’s Nationals).

This targets girls aged between 13-17 years with the aim of getting them into the football system through the female talent pathway and seeing them continue on to play at community level if they aren’t already.

Players are encouraged to register their interest as registrations close today at 4pm.
