Perth’s best junior talent comes together at RDC Team of the Year showcase

The best junior talent across Perth came together for WA Football’s Regional Development Councils (RDCs) Team of the Year Showcase at Lightning Park in Noranda on Wednesday night.

More than 120 players, representing over 50 clubs from Perth’s metro areas, as Metro Central, Metro North and Metro South representative teams went head-to-head in a round-robin competition.

Metro Central were crowned champions in both the male and female competitions in an impressive double achievement.?

The Showcase is a special celebration of the Year 11 and 12 Female and Male players dedication throughout their junior football journey, with jumper presentations, team photos, and competitive matches between Metro Central, Metro South, and Metro North conferences.

This year marked the first time all three conferences played games against one another, making it a standout moment on the junior football calendar.

Selection into the Team of the Year was based on Fairest-and-Best vote counts in each region, with a captain appointed for each team. ?

Premiership-winning coaches from the highest divisions were appointed Coaches of the six teams, while umpires selected had all earned Umpire of the Year honours in their districts.?

“It’s great to see so many young players, coaches and umpires coming together and showing what they’re capable of. This event really highlighted the strength of the metro junior football community,” WA Football’s Head of Club Development and Volunteers Corey Ranger said.

Metro South RDC Chair Anthony Doig said the event was a fantastic showcase of junior metropolitan football.

“The Team of the Year Showcase is a fantastic opportunity to recognise the hard work and talent across our regions. Seeing these young players compete and connect reminds us why grassroots footy is so important,” Doig said.?
