CoachingBullcreek Leeming JFC Leads Fight Against Pancreatic Cancer

For the fifth consecutive year, Bullcreek Leeming Junior Football Club is rallying its players, families and the wider community in support of pancreatic cancer research.
The club has partnered with Pankind, Pancreatic Cancer Australia, for its annual Play in Purple Round on the first weekend of August.

The club initiative has grown into one of Bullcreek Leeming JFC’s most significant traditions.
Over the past four years the club has raised almost $55,000 through community fundraising events, generous donations for all our wonderful sponsors and its dedicated Play in Purple Round, where every player proudly wears Pankind socks in a visible show of support.
The annual round reflects the club’s commitment to using the power of grassroots football to make a real difference beyond the game.
By bringing together hundreds of players, volunteers, families and supporters, Bullcreek Leeming JFC continues to raise vital awareness of one of Australia’s deadliest cancers while inspiring the next generation to give back to their community.

For Emma Bodin, Fundraising/Events/Socials Manager at Bullcreek Leeming JFC, the cause is deeply personal.
“Our Purple Round has become an important event for our club, bringing people together around an important cause,” Bodin said.
“After losing my own mum to pancreatic cancer in 2019, I understand the need for community awareness.”
Pancreatic cancer is Australia’s third biggest cancer killer.
Around 4,825 Australians are expected to be diagnosed this year, with incidence having doubled over the past two decades.
Despite this, survival rates remain among the lowest of any major cancer, with only 13.5% of patients surviving five years after diagnosis.

Through its partnership with Pankind, Bullcreek Leeming JFC is helping change that.
Pankind’s goal is to triple pancreatic cancer survival rates by 2030 by investing in world-class research, increasing awareness and advocating for better access to life-saving treatments.
Every donation made through Bullcreek Leeming JFC’s Play in Purple campaign helps bring that goal closer while reinforcing the club’s belief that local communities can have a national impact.
